Pro-Israeli hawks rant on and on about Israel's security, but this is a double standard because the Palestinians have an even bigger security issue. This is shown by the fact that
more Palestinians have died than Israelis and that the West Bank & Gaza strip, where most of them live, is occupied by Israel. Imagine the kind of rants about Israeli security we'd hear if Israel was occupied by an Arab country. Yet somehow it is okay for Israel to do the samething to Palestinians.
The West Bank & Gaza Strip are occupied by Israel, which never officially annexed them (made them part of Israel) despite occupying them for over 30 years. This is because if they did one of two results would happen:
(1) Palestinians, now outnumbering Zionists, would outvote them and the Jewish state would be no more
(2) the Zionists would impose some kind of dictatorship in order to prevent (1) from happening
From the perspective of those in the West Bank & Gaza strip, the current situation is very similar to option (2), but doing it this way is less embarassing to Israel and makes its claim to be a democracy more credible.
If Israel aimed to maximize its defence against suicide bombers or other attacks in Israel then the most effective place to put the wall would be slightly inside Israel. This way they could mine & patrol right outside it, but the current path (which snakes through the West bank) makes the wall much more vulnerable to attack. Therefore, they must have another goal in mind - a landgrab of parts of the West Bank.
Another effective way for Israel to stop suicide bombers is to not
support groups like Hamas.
